A client asked us if it was normal to obtain such high values of stress accumulations at slope changes and at the landing section during the analysis of a footbridge exposed to horizontal wind action.
In these cases, the best option to know if the values shown by the program are correct and within an acceptable range is to analyze the deformation of the beam and the boundary conditions.
If we superimpose the moment law with the Y-deformation, we will see that these peaks occur at the point where there is a change of stiffness, going from a greater separation between diagonals, to a smaller one, in addition to the proximity of the line of supports. So it makes sense that a higher moment is concentrated at these points.
