In this article we want to explain a very simple but powerful method to edit parameterized sections in STATIK using the Windows clipboard and an EXCEL sheet.
When we have a structure composed of similar sections but with varying dimensions, as it can be the edge of the segments in a bridge built by successive cantilevers, it is very useful to be able to create all the sections from a parameterized section. This can be done in a very simple way with the following procedure.
1.- Click on the “Edit cross-sections” button in the “Structure” tab of STATIK.
2.- Click on the “New parameterized section” button and select the section you want to use.
In our case, we are going to take the one we see in the image above and we are going to name it “SECTION-1”.
3.- Select the section we have just created in the list of sections of the library and press the “Export” button.
4.- Select the option “Parameterized section of the clipboard” and press “Export”.
With this we will have copied to the clipboard all the information that we see in the picture above.
5.- Open a blank EXCEL sheet and press Ctrl+V.
In the image above we see all the information of the section we want to edit. The fields are defined by the name (SECTION-1 in our case) and by the different variables that allow us to edit the dimensions of the section. We will always see the variables that appear in the definition box of the parameterized section:
And variables U1 and U2, which correspond to the reinforcement coverings:
6.- We copy the information of the row “SECTION-1” as many times as sections we want to create from this one and edit the information of the field “NAME” (this way we create new sections) and all the variables we want. In our case, we are going to modify the variable “H”, which corresponds to the edge.
7.- Select the boxes with information and press Ctrl+C. With this action we will be copying all the information again in the clipboard.
8.- Go to STATIK, press the “Import” button of the sections library and select the option “Parameterized section from clipboard”.
9.- Press the “Import” button.
10.- We will automatically have all the sections we have created available in the project's section library.
With this simple procedure we have presented how to use a very powerful STATIK functionality that is sure to boost the productivity of users when defining the sections of their structures.
